Principal Team
Southern Connecticut Chinese School @ SCSU will be managed by a
principal team for the next school year (2009-2010). The following
people will serve our school as school vice principal:
FAN, XIAONING
Is to appoint as the First Vice Principal of Southern Connecticut
Chinese School. Since 1996, she has been a major member of this
school, and plaid leadership role. In 2008, she took a teaching
Chinese position at Southern Connecticut State University, our host
school, and earned her Master of Science degree in education area.
She has more than 10 years of teaching Chinese experience,
especially for non-Chinese heritage student. In addition, she has
been proved to be very active member and has a broad connection
outside of our school. Most importantly, she has the manage skill,
and including her in the principal team will enhance our ability to
coordinate between different structure units of school.
FU, YIGUANG
Is to appoint as the Vice Principal of Southern Connecticut Chinese
School and in charge of finance and human resource. She has served
this school since 1996 as the teacher, and is current accountant of
our school. She is very careful person, and has been trusted by
administration team of this school. At her new position, she will
expand her role from the only account to a newly area of the school.
Documentation of school employee is our weak area, but it will be
very important to our school, as we are moving our mission to the
public as a not-for-profit organization. She will work in a team
setup environment with different expertise to improve our financial
system and documentation system.
GUO, XINJIAN
Is to appoint as the Vice Principal of Southern Connecticut Chinese
School and in charge of school IT and school registration process.
He joined and led the Web team in late 2007 and built up the online
registration and class management system for our school. Since 1996,
he has been an IT professional and has been actively in the IT
field. His first hand experience with our school IT system will make
our registration process much more easily in the future. In this
position, he will recruit and setup the IT team, charge registration
process, provides help to teacher with Web posting, etc. In
addition, he will oversee the privacy protection issue. Under him,
Jing Zhang (will be in other announcement) is to appoint as the IT
director and will lead IT group in charge of the privacy protection,
and other IT security issue.
MING YUAN
Is to appoint as the Vice Principal of Southern Connecticut Chinese
School and in charge of non-Chinese teaching activity. This new
position will oversee the non-Chinese teaching, coordinate the
resource, recruit teachers, make policy for non-Chinese teaching,
and provide me advice to deal with any issue related to the non-
Chinese teaching. Yuan has been recognized as professional fine art
show organizer, and conducted Chinese New Year Celebration twice for
this school. She served school as Board Director for two years.
Currently, she is teacher of child choir of our school. Her join
into the principal team will bring fresh idea to the school
regarding to moving direction of our non-Chinese teaching activity.
In addition, her long-standing reorganization in the local community
will be big plus for our work on public relationship.
3rd Annual General Member Meeting
Dear SCCS members,
We had a wonderful general member council on May 10, 2009.
We celebrated the great achievement of our Chinese school for the past
two years.
We passed the first school by-law amendments.
We approved the school’s budget for next year.
We appointed our next school principal (nominated by the school board)
as the school council!
We celebrated and gave our sincere appreciation to Dr. Ling Mu’s
dedication to our Chinese school as the school principal for nine years!
And, we elected our new PTA leaders and new board directors.
Congratulations to our school and to all of the elected school
leaders! Thank you for your willingness to serve!

PTA Candidate Statements:
1. Judy Carten
I would like to help build a stronger Chinese school community.
1). I would like to bring your best ideas to this school to make it
even better while getting more parents involved with the school.
2). I would like to help school develop a fund raising program to
improve our financials. This would enable us to more activities for
our students and their parents. Some examples are a donation program
and providing opportunities for volunteer work. This will allow us
to provide greater access to our school performances, and offer the
possibility to open them to the public -- raising our overall
profile.
3). I would also like to extend Chinese school to make it more
approachable to students with diverse backgrounds. China's explosive
economic development has raised interest in our language and
culture, this has drawn students that traditionally never attended
our school. As we evolve the program, I can provide this perspective
to assure all of our students are getting the most out of the time
they invest with us.
2. 黄翡
我有俩个孩子在中文学校上学。在过去的两年里，我曾做过学校委员会的委
员。在这次换届选举中，我决定退出学校委员会。但回顾这两年来我们的学校
无论是教学还是学校的管理都日益得到加强和完善。我想再为中文学校做一些
事情。所以，这次我决定竞选PTA副主席。
3. 雷明：
来自中国四川。1982年毕业于成都科技大学（现四川大学）水利系；85年获
生物力学硕士学位。85年到89年留校从事教学和心血管流体动力学研究及人工
心脏瓣膜开发研制工作。90年获欧共体奖学金到荷兰Eindhoven理工大学进
修。 91年来美。96年获北卡州大生物医学工程博士。96年到97年间在约翰霍普
金斯大学医学院生物医学工程系作博士后研究。之后，先后在三家公司从事生
物医学及生物技术方面的产品开发及研究工作。2002年来到康州在Roche下属公
司454 Life Sciences（Branford）工作直到现在。
现住Madison。 女儿在中文学校上三年级。没什么经验，只有一颗愿为大家
服务的心。愿中文学校为我们的下一代学习中文创造一个良好的环境，并在我
们所在的社区传播中国文化。

4. Sha Liu 刘霞
I graduated from Huazhong Normal University, I also have an
accounting degree and business management certificate at Yale
University. I have both teaching and administrative experience of
more then 8 years, currently I am a teacher for the dance classes at
our school and a financial administrator at Yale. Most importantly I
love children and have a passion for teaching, also I’m willing to
be a valuable contributor to my community.

2. 李嘉苑
我叫李嘉苑, 职业是财务, 有两个孩子在中文学校上学.
我是现任的理事会成员之一. 我和其他理事以及学校领导班子一起做了一些
工作:
参与向IRS申报学校为非盈利机构的工作
协助学校财务管理
协助举办2008 暑期班
协助组建安全委员会
参与和南康州大的公关事宜
但回看自己所做的工作,感觉还有很多需要改进和健全的地方, 因此想再留
下两年, 继续做一些事.
在过去的一年多里,我学到了很多知识和经验, 也认识了不少家长和老师.让
我深切的感到我们这里真是卧虎藏龙, 我们学校的前景无可限量.
3. Allan Liu (刘锰)
我志愿参加今年南康州中文学校董事会成员的改选活动并希望竞选成为其中
的一员.
我曾经在中国医学科学院暨中国协和医科大学研究生院担任过研究生会主席
的职务, 深切地感到做这些志愿性的工作, 首先需要的是热心, 然后才是能力.
只有这样才能把工作做好.我的小孩在这里学中文已经3-4年了, 随着功课越来
越难, 家长的参与也就越来越多, 通过辅导小孩子所获得的成就感, 我对中文
学校的参与热情也越来越大, 所以这次想通过参加进入董事会和管理梯队的方
式, 来奉献一些自己的热心和力量.希望南康州中文学校越办越好.
4. 魏宁
职业是生物学家。毕业于北大(B.S.)及 UC Berkeley (Ph.D.)。女儿曾在中
文学校就读了九年，已毕业。儿子现在中文学校读七年级。可见我们对中文语
言教育极为重视。因为儿女的年龄相对大一些，也积攒了一些经验和想法，希
望对学校的发展有所贡献。在过去的1－2年里，我以 PTA 副主席及校刊总编的
身份做了一些工作，包括出了五期校刊，协助PTA 举办了各项活动。除此之外
还设计了学校的校徽。通过这些活动，我对学校的运作有所熟悉。下一年，想
参与做理事会的工作。
5. 吴燕云
过去的两年，作为学校理事会成员之一，我有幸和各位理事，家长委员会成
员，学校主管人员，许多家长和老师们一起为学校做了一些事情。看到学校日
渐完善，深感真是“众人拾柴火焰高”。
如果能得到大家的支持，我愿意再为学校效力两年，使我们的学校“更上一
层楼”！
6. 赵立平
在中文学校理事会已尽了两年义务. 在这期间, 我帮助学校组建了网站小
组. 该小组负责学校的网页设计,数据管理和网上注册登记系统的开发等. 小组
由郭新建领导.小组成员为学校网站的丰富和完善,奉献了许多宝贵的时间.在此
表示衷心感谢! 其次是帮助学校建立了值班制度. 主要值班人员是学校理事会
成员,PTA成员和校长. 其中也包括部分家长. 非常感谢大家的积极参与和帮助.
在值班期间为学校解决了许多问题.
在这两年期间, 我感受到我们每个人都在尽心尽力地为学校服务. 对所承担
的工作尽职尽责.真正表现出为学校无私奉献的精神.
为了更好地优化学校的财力,物力和人力资源, 达到让家长少交费,学生多学
东西的目的. 我们对学校的结构进行了调整. 希望在下学期会有成效,同时也希
望会有更多的家长出来帮忙, 把我们的学校办得更好. 谢谢!

问：什么是中文学校理事会(School Board)？
答：中文学校理事会是通过全体会员大会(General Member Council)选举而产生
的。是全体成员的代表权力机构。
问：中文学校理事会(School Board)主要职能是什么？
答：中文学校理事会的主要职能是制定学校的方针策略，和监督学校的By Law的
执行。把握中文学校的大方向。理事会负责招聘校长并提交全体会员大会通过。
问：什么样的人比较适合做理事会的理事？
答：做理事会的理事需要有很好的中英文交流的能力，和比较多的管理和规划能
力。理事会经常要通过email和电话会议讨论通过一些事项，所以，需要投入一
定的时间和精力阅读文件，拟写文件，参与讨论大事的制定。
问：什么是ＰＴＡ？
答：ＰＴＡ就是Parents and Teachers Association，是家长和教师代表的联合
协会，由一名会长和若干名副会长组成。ＰＴＡ也是由全体会员大会(General
Member Council)选举而产生的， 但是ＰＴＡ会长也可以任命副会长。 被选举
的ＰＴＡ会长必须是学校会员。ＰＴＡ应该至少有一名教师代表。
问：ＰＴＡ主要做的是什么？
答：ＰＴＡ要协助学校和理事会来把家长和教师的声音反映出来，协助学校更好
地把教学环境搞好，维护学校的安全和秩序。ＰＴＡ下属有若干个委员会，比
如，学校安全委员会，筹款委员会，家长活动委员会（ＢＢＱ烧烤聚会，春游，
秋游，成人文体娱乐活动， 讲座等），学校大型活动委员会（包括春节联欢活
动，书展，朗诵、演讲竞赛， 中华文化艺术展等），等等。
问：什么样的人更适合做ＰＴＡ领导人？
答：有能力，有特长的志愿者，愿意负责一项具体的事项。有的人很有号召力，
有的人比较擅长说服他人捐款，有的人喜欢出主意，可以想出许多好点子，组织
一些有趣的活动，也有人认真负责，愿意服务于学校。
问：学校领导的服务期限是多长？
答：因为大家都是兼职或者义务奉献，能够认真负责地奉献二年的时间和精力，
已经是难能可贵的了。根据现在的学校By Laws, 学校理事会，ＰＴＡ的Term都
是任职二年，有兴趣连任的候选人可以连任两届。这样，大家可以保持足够的精
力以及学校不断地吸收新鲜血液。
Poetry Contest
南康中文学校期末朗诵、演讲竞赛
• 活动宗旨：激发孩子学中文、说中文的积极性，帮助孩子享受学中文的乐趣。
鼓励每一位学生参与。
• 形式和要求：背诵儿歌、诗歌；演讲；讲故事；每位学生所用时间不得超过3
分钟。
• 进行方式：班里初选，之后年级决赛；1、2、3年级单独进行，4-5年级共同进
行；6-7年级共同进行，8-9年级共同进行。
• 评委：班级比赛：每个班的所有家长朋友 年级比赛：家长委员会从该年级
指定5位家长；参加决赛孩子的家长不能参加评选；所有老师不参加评选，但要
组织比赛。（做选票、计票等等）
• 计分方法：10分制；去掉最高分和最低分，取平均分。
• 时间和地点：
班里初选将于5月10号2：15在本教室进行
年级决赛将于5月17号2：15进行 （注：17号没有艺术课）。
决赛教室安排如下：
1年级：A120
2年级：C112
3年级：C140
4-5年级：B218
6-7年级：B214
8-9年级：B111
• 获奖比例：每四位学生取一位参加决赛；年级决赛取前五名；合并的两个年级
共取前五名。
• 奖励：凡参加竞赛的同学，均获得5点奖励；凡进入决赛的同学，每位可再得
20点；决赛第一名可再得150点，第二名可再得100 点，第三名可再得80点，第
四名可再得60点，第五名可再得40点。
